MILITARY: Lt. Commander, U.S. Navy JAG Corps., Reserves (1966-1975).

CURRENT JOB: I am studiously retired from compensated work, but busier than ever. Former senior vice president, general counsel and chief compliance officer, BASF Corp., where I was responsible for legal, patent and governmental affairs in North America. BASF is a chemical company with operations in 100 countries, headquartered in Germany.

AUTHOR: Articles on the e-discovery amendments to the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure.

BAR ACTIVITIES: Helped form and manage the EDD activities of the Civil Justice Reform Group and the Lawyers for Civil Justice.

HOME OFFICES: Dell Inc. Latitude 610 and D800, with Microsoft Corp.'s XP. Hewlett Packard Co. HP Officejet 731 and two HP Photosmart 3180s (one in New York City, one in Cincinnati) and an HP 1100 Photosmart. Logitech Web camera so we can see our 17-month-old grandson. D-Link wireless router and a wireless "radio" which picks up European stations, including a "cool jazz" station from the Malvines.

MOST RECENT TECH PURCHASE: Adobe System Inc.'s Photoshop 5.

NEXT TECH PURCHASE: A new Dell laptop, without Vista.

PDA: I do not believe in being dominated by BlackBerry, so I carry a hard-copy pocket calendar and miss calls.

CELL: A crummy, barely-working older Verizon LG for which I cannot buy chargers.

FAVORITE NON-TECH MAGAZINES:Trains. Metropolis.

FAVORITE TV SHOW: "Ugly Betty."

FAVORITE MODE OF TRANSPORTATION: Trains. Just rode the Amtrak Cascades fromPortland to Seattle!

LAST BOOK READ:"Berlin," by Pierre Frei.

WHERE WOULD WE FIND YOU ON A SATURDAY AFTERNOON: Riding the 1/9 to and from the WestVillage and our apartment on the Upper West Side. Or just enjoying Mariemont, outside Cincinnati.
