Mobile App Uses Your iPhone Camera as a Scanner
IPad, iPhone, and iPod touch users can now use the Apple Inc. devices' cameras to scan documents and photos with the release of version 2.1 of Hamrick Software's Vuescan Mobile, the Phoenix, Ariz. company announced.
VueScan Mobile connects Apple's iOS smartphones and tablets to Hewlett-Packard Corp., Canon Inc., and Epson America Inc. printer-scanners on the same Wi-Fi network to scan documents and images inserted into the scanner and receive the scanned output. The VueScan app stores scanned images in .jpg or .pdf format, which can be emailed, saved to the clipboard, or stored in local memory associated with Vuescan or another iOS app such as iBooks, Dropbox, GoodReader, and Evernote. VueScan's camera scanning function takes a picture of a document and automatically crops the text for viewing on the device.
VueScan Mobile is available at the App Store in a free version that scans at 300 dpi using supported scanners and exports .jpg images. The full version of the app ($5) supports document feeders, duplex, document management and multipage PDF documents. It's also available for Android devices and Kindle Fire.
PageScope Mobile iOS in Version 3.0
Ramsey, N.J.-based Konica Minolta Business Solutions U.S.A. Inc. announced Thursday the release of version 3.0 of its PageScope Mobile iOS App. The latest iteration of the app, which connects iPads, iPhones, and iPod Touch to Konica Minolta bizhub multifunctional printers, extends support to the fifth generation of iPod Touch and to iPad mini.
PageScope Mobile pairs iOS devices and MFPs using a Wi-Fi connection to let users browse, read, scan, and print documents and images on MFPs. New features include:
• Expanded support for Konica Minolta Workgroup MFPs.
• Document layout (simplex/duplex/booklet) and binding options.
• Illustrated print settings in print preview mode.
• Sort documents by name, date, or file size.
• Preview scanned files and name files during scanning process.
The app is available as a free download in Apple's App Store.
Mobile Sync Pro 2.0 Keeps All Your Devices Connected
Jacksonville, Fla.-based Retina-X Studios LLC announced version 2.0 of Mobile Sync Pro, its cloud-based app to synchronize and share data between multiple devices running on different operating systems.
It works by having users store their smartphone data in a centralized cloud-based platform that pushes the data to all connected devices. For example, if a user adds a contact, document, calendar, or task to an iPhone, the same information can be sent automatically to a Samsung Galaxy or another popular non-Apple device once the synchronization is performed. The app can also synchronize smartphones with personal computers. Mobile Sync Pro supports Google's Android, Research In Motion's BlackBerry, iPhone, and Windows Phones.
Mobile lawyers who share the same law office but favor different devices might find the app advantageous to seamlessly share data in the field. The free app can be downloaded after you register for the service. Each free account is restricted to 200 megabytes of online storage and only one account per user is allowed.
Velawsity to Help Solos Streamline Non-Billable Tasks
Chicago, Ill.-based Velawsity announced Thursday its namesake product, a cloud-based client and matter management tool designed to help solo practitioners reduce the time spent on non-billable, administrative tasks.
Velawsity features include digital client engagement letters; a database to store client information, relationships, and matters to identify conflicts of interest; an intuitive dashboard to manage attorney-client communications; and customized letter templates to generate client correspondence from the inception to the conclusion of a matter.
Velawsity is currently in its beta mode and is available free for the first month and at a flat rate of $30 per month thereafer.
