Most software providers evolve from software distribution to software as a service. Kroll Ontrack is evolving from services to software with a new Managed Service Provider partner program initiated with two partners: Hudson Legal and NightOwl Discovery.

The Eden Praire, Minn.-based e-discovery company aims to focus on core software offerings and partner services such as building software to support MSP partners, said Michele C.S. Lange, director of thought leadership and industry relations at Kroll Ontrack, from LegalTech New York.

Lang said that Kroll Ontrack will continue to build capabilities through partnerships that focus on paper imaging, consulting, and software collection.

The new partnership program combines technology-assisted review and review teams. Kroll Ontrack aims to supply e-discovery and data recovery software to partners Hudson and NightOwl. Hudson Legal brings to the table its experience in staffing and managing reviews. NightOwl will bring its skills and experience in managed review services, which focus on data collection and review. Each partner will offer Kroll Ontrack's online review platform, Ontrack Inview, as part of its repertoire of software. Ontrack Inview uses Intelligent Review Technology, which automatically prioritizes and categorizes e-discovery content for review teams and learns from attorney trainers.

Perceived client benefits of the new partnership program include:

• Improved speed and quality control in document review.
• More global data centers in North America, Europe, and Asia Pacific to meet compliance regulations.
• Scalable review teams screened for training, qualifications, and project language requirements to meet client needs.
