Lawgical Inc. on Wednesday announced that it's acquired the Legal Talk Network from Boston Media Group, which had begun winding down the podcast series last fall.
"We had been following the brand quite a bit and saw an opportunity to keep the content going, and hopefully add to that," Lawgical CTO and co-founder Trent Carlyle said. Lawgical evolved in 2004 from Carlyle's former company Westin Consulting, while Boston's Lu Ann Reeb formed Legal Talk Network in 2005.
"I needed to find either a partner or someone who's interested in content development," Reeb said, adding that she plans to build new content for the medical industry.
Carlyle, in Denver, said he is having conversations with prominent Legal Talk Network contributors such as consultant Robert Ambrogi, who was featured on the Lawyer 2 Lawyer podcast. Law Technology News editor-in-chief Monica Bay was also a featured host on the network's Law Technology Now podcast. "We've spoken with Bob and we've spoken with all the other hosts," Carlyle said. "Do we want to retain talent like that? Absolutely."
Ambrogi said he and and co-host Craig Williams "will probably decide to revive the podcast somewhere, we just haven't decided where yet." There have been conversations with other interested parties, he added.
"It has been an absolute pleasure to work with Lu Ann Reeb and her team at the Legal Talk Network and I am looking forward to continuing our Law Technology Now podcast with Adam Camras and Trent Carlyle at Lawgical," Bay said.
Carlyle said his company has about 20 employees and plans to hire two more this year. Reeb will assist with transitioning the Legal Talk Network into a Lawgical property. Lawgical also intends to re-launch its ServeManager application this year, he said.
