At the 2013 International CES this week, Cupertino, Calif.-based storage provider Seagate Technology LLC announced the second generation of its mobile Wi-Fi storage device, called Mobile Plus, which replaces the Seagate GoFlex Satellite product. The new device, which can simultaneously stream movies and other digital content to up to eight mobile devices, received a "CES Best of Innovations 2013" award in the Computer Accessories Category.

The Wireless Plus includes a 1-terabyte hard drive and supports mobile apps for Apple iOS, Android, and the Kindle Fire. The Mobile Plus offers up to 10 hours of battery life and allows you to stream content to mobile devices over Wi-Fi (802.11b/g/n).

The new mobile storage device supports USB 3.0, allowing you to load files from a computer running Linux, Mac OS, or Windows. You can also move content to the Mobile Plus drive over Wi-Fi from Android and iOS devices using the free Seagate Media app.

In addition, the mobile device lets you stream movies, photos, and other media directly to Apple TVs and Samsung Smart TVs, among other network devices. This capability lets you upload an HD movie from your iPhone to the Mobile Plus and view it on your TV using Apple's AirPlay technology without having to involve a Mac computer or PC.

Moreover, the width and height of the Wireless Plus is 5-by-3.5 inches, less than that of an Apple Magic Trackpad, with a thickness of .75 inches. It weighs about nine ounces. At a MSRP of $200, it is a cheaper alternative to, say, buying an iPad with 64 GB of storage.
