Miliptas-Calif.-based storage media company Promise Technology Inc. has announced that its Thunderbolt-enabled Pegasus J2 external hard drive is now available for Windows, certified for PC use by Intel Corporation. Thunderbolt is a dual-protocol (PCI Express and DisplayPort) input/output technology developed by Intel, with Apple, that delivers 10 gigabits per second, bidirectional data transfer speeds.

The Pegasus J2 is available in a 256-gigabyte model with two 128-GB mSATA solid state drives, or a 512-GB model with two 256-GB mSATA SSDs. Its 2.05 x 7.4 x 11 centimeter (Height x Width x Length) size and five ounce weight give it the portability of a smartphone. For legal professionals who need to back up their data quickly, the Pegasus J2 can deliver up to 550 megabytes per second write speed and 750 MBps read speed when connected to an A/C power source — users who opt to power it from a Thunderbolt port at 10 watts can expect slower 110-MBps writes and 270-MBps reads.

With Thunderbolt I/O, trial technologists can store high-definition video on the Pegasus J2, edit the video using non-linear editing software such as Adobe Premiere, and easily transport the drive to court to play back the video. The drive can also be used to back up important client emails and case documents quickly without cutting into your productivity.

Pegasus J2 drives for Windows PCs and Macs cost $499 for the 256-MB model and $899 for the 512-GB model. The Mac drives are available from the Apple Online Store — the Thunderbolt cable is not included with the base unit — the Windows models are available through Promise Technology's global network of distributors and value added resellers.

Press release.
