The law unit of Wolters Kluwer is expanding its news service for legal practice areas, officials said Monday.

The service is called Daily Reporting Suite. It covers five topics daily, with the three newest being antitrust law, health, and securities regulation, said Bob Lemmond, vice president of Legal Markets. Two other topics — employment law and intellectual property law — were previously offered in email alerts, but those messages were sent on an inconsistent and infrequent schedule, Lemmond explained, in New York.

There are mobile applications to access the news service in addition to the daily emails, RSS feeds, and IntelliConnect, Wolters Kluwer's web-based platform. The mobile apps work on Apple iOS, Google Android, and Research In Motion BlackBerry devices, officials said. Subscribers can use the mobile applications to see cases and research on the news, officials said. Subscribers can customize what kind of information they want to see by jurisdiction and topic area. There is also an RSS news feed option.

Other features of the research service include the ability to store favorite links, take notes, share links with colleagues, and filter views by jurisdiction and topic areas.

Lemmond said there will be additional practice areas added in 2013. The subjects are still being considered, he said. Wolters Kluwer hopes to add information gathered from law firms and from social media sources, he noted.

Subscriptions are priced on a bundle for all topics, or by practice areas and by the number of users in a firm, Lemmond said. He declined to state the actual cost.

Wolters Kluwer said one of the service's first users is Marc Powers, national leader of Baker & Hostetler securities litigation and regulatory enforcement practice. Powers, who sits on Wolters Kluwer's securities regulation advisory board, said he likes that the service arrives at the end of the business day, and that he agrees with the company's plans to add information sources next year.

A competitor, Bloomberg Law, announced an attorney information bundle of its own last week. That package is tailored for business development purposes.

Separately, Wolters Kluwer Corporate Legal Services announced that Raja Sengupta is now executive vice president and general manager of small and medium business solutions.
