Iron Mountain to Help Law Firms Reduce Records Storage Costs

Law Technology News

01-31-2013

Law firms are concerned about the cost of their commercial leases to operate their businesses and store paper records. Some law firms are looking to cut real estate expenses, which amounts to the firm's largest fixed cost. As a result, firms are shrinking offices, swapping walls for glass meeting rooms and cubicles, and reclaiming space used by law libraries and filing cabinets.

To help legal professionals store, manage, and access paper, Boston-based Iron Mountain Inc. has announced the Total Offsite Records Solution for law firms, which combines off-site records storage and document scanning along with KwikTag scan technology from DocSolid, a document scanning software and workflow provider.

Iron Mountain's Total Offsite Records Solution has two main pieces: 1) a dedicated off-site records center and 2) a "Go Smart Digital" strategy.

With GSD, Iron Mountain consultants design a customized digitization strategy based on law firm criteria such as the firm's culture and best practices. In addition, through a partnership with DocSolid, firms can enter "KwikTagged" documents scanned by Iron Mountain directly into a document management system or other repository.

With the new service, Iron Mountain hopes firms regain office space and become more efficient consumers and managers of records. By moving records to an Iron Mountain facility for centralized storage, management, and scanning, law firms can make smarter use of their real estate and facilitate access to scanned documents from desktops and mobile devices.
