Mechdyne Connection Portal to Extend Enterprise Remote Access

Law Technology News

01-04-2013

Marshalltown, Iowa-based Mechdyne Corporation has announced the launch of Connection Portal, remote access software that brings together distributed computer assets such as applications, data sets, and CPUs in a web-based interface. Connection Portal enables real-time collaboration across long distances by providing browser access to an organization's computers, meeting spaces, and people.

Users can utilize shared CPU resources such as blade server clusters, access datasets from remote locations, and share desktops and conference room screens. Computers are managed from one centralized data center, reducing ownership costs and maintenance issues such as hardware cooling.

Features include single-click opening of remote sessions, collaboration requests to locate users by name and send requests to shared screens, and searching for available assets by software and hardware criteria. Connection Portal maintains a live inventory of applications and hardware and reports on orphaned sessions — sessions still open on servers after clients have disconnected.

Connection Portal uses the Flash runtime interface inside a web page, requires no software on the client side, and supports Windows and Linux operating systems. Its server runs on a J2EE application package with a JDBC database back-end using MySQL (Oracle or Microsoft SQL on request) and supports Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Windows Server. The product is packaged and distributed in a software virtual machine to install on customer-supported hardware.

Press release.
