12-11-2012

Guidance Software Inc., a Pasadena-based digital investigations and e-discovery software provider, released EnCase Portable Version 4. EnCase Portable is designed for forensic professionals and non-technical staff to forensically assess and capture a data collection in the field.

The portable version of EnCase runs on a five-gigabyte USB drive that allows investigators to boot from that drive, run a pre-configured data search and collection job stored to an EnCase Evidence File on the USB drive or on another, larger USB drive sufficient to store the target collection.

EnCase Portable is integrated with EnCase Forensic Version 7.05, which has a simpler user interface than previous versions of the forensic application, and allows a non-technical person to preview data as it is being collected as well as assess collected data using SQL-query analysis. The product has two options to analyze data acquired from jobs:

1. Analyze data from within a set of interlinking data browsers that let you drill down into collected content, e.g., an internet history file; and

2. Advanced data analysis functions with a graphical user interface to search metadata and add data images to reports.
