The D.C. Circuit has upheld a ruling that former Colombian President Alvaro Uribe Velez is protected from sitting for a deposition as a witness in a suit against an Alabama-based company. The underlying suit alleges that the company advanced its interests through an association with a State Department-designated terrorist group. In pursuing immunity for Uribe, the U.S. Justice Department said it was concerned about treatment of American officials abroad.
