Stephenson Harwood Launches in Beijing
The Asian Lawyer
U.K. firm Stephenson Harwood has opened a Beijing office.
The office will have no partners but be staffed by legal director James Zhang, who joined Stephenson Harwood last month, and one other legal director, who will join at a later date.
Zhang was most recently a partner at Beijing's Zhong Yin Law Firm, which he joined in 2010. Before that, he helped set up a now-defunct Beijing office for San Francisco-based Access International Law Group. Earlier in his career, he was an associate in Hong Kong with both Baker & McKenzie and Herbert Smith.
The new Beijing office will initially support the firm's corporate and maritime law groups, with plans for future hiring focused on international trade, arbitration and asset finance practices.
Stephenson Harwood, which has around 400 lawyers worldwide, also has Asian offices in Hong Kong, Guangzhou, Shanghai and Singapore.
The firm's Singapore office recently entered into an association in Singapore with local five-lawyer firm Virtus Law, which is led by partners Daryll Ng and Arthur Loke. Stephenson Harwood also has an association with Indonesia's Christian Teo Purwono & Partners.
