Lawyer Files Continuance for 'Very Important Baseball Business' -- Attending World SeriesA Dallas lawyer filed a continuance motion Monday so he can attend his favorite team's first-ever World Series appearance today. Darrell W. Cook says he has tickets to Game 1 of the World Series between the Texas Rangers and the San Francisco Giants, which falls on the same day as a pretrial hearing in his client's code enforcement case. "I would really rather be there ... at the court," the motion says, "But I can't be there and attending to some very important baseball business in San Francisco. I'm only one dude."Texas Lawyer 2010-10-27 12:00:00 AMIn what is certainly a first-of-its-kind legal pleading (at least by a fan of the Texas Rangers), a Dallas lawyer says he filed a continuance motion Monday in municipal court. Why? He wants to attend his favorite team's first-ever World Series appearance today. Darrell W. Cook says he has tickets to Game 1 of the World Series between the Rangers and the San Francisco Giants, which falls on the same day as a pretrial hearing in his client's code enforcement case. So a city prosecutor asked that Cook put his reasons for the continuance in writing and file it with the municipal court, which he did. Cook notes in an e-mail that he filed the motion by fax. "To put in bluntly, Darrell must be in San Francisco to attend to Very Important Baseball matters and really, really needs to not be obligated to attend the hearing scheduled for October 27th, 2010 as he has no one to cover for him so that he can see to his business in San Francisco," Cook writes in the motion. Cook says he has not yet heard back from the municipal court, which is causing him some tension. "It is very important baseball business. That's the conundrum I'm in. The court has 40 motions it has to decide tomorrow morning," says Cook, of Darrell W. Cook & Associates. "I would really rather be there ... at the court. But I can't be there and attending to some very important baseball business in San Francisco. I'm only one dude." This article first appeared on Tex Parte Blog. |
