As corporate law departments continue feeling pressure from management to justify costs, performance metrics for outside counsel matter along with relationships, said three in-house lawyers at a panel discussion last week. They were speaking at the Value Challenge conference held by the Georgia chapter of the Association of Corporate Counsel at Sutherland Asbill & Brennan.

The panelists said they want their outside firms to think of them as business partners and help them keep legal costs down, because they face the same pressures from their companies’ top management.
