On Friday, March 16, American Business Media (ABM) announced the winners of its 58th Annual Jesse H. Neal National Business Journalism Awards, and both CorpCounsel and its parent company, ALM, walked away with honors.

CorpCounsel was named a finalist in four categories by ABM, and took the top prize for Best News Coverage—for Sue Reisinger’s series of articles about the U.S. Department of Justice charging former GlaxoSmithKline in-house lawyer Lauren Stevens with six felonies, which ended with a dramatic mid-trial acquittal on all six counts. In addition, CorpCounsel’s sibling publications The American Lawyer, The National Law Journal, and Texas Lawyer each took home prizes for Best Profile, Best Single Article, and Best Single Issue of a Tabloid/Newspaper, respectively.

One of the highlights of the awards event at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in New York City was the honoring of Aric Press, ALM’s vice president/editor in chief, with the 44th Annual G.D. Crain, Jr., Award, which “is given annually to an individual who has made outstanding contributions to the development of editorial excellence in business media,” according to ABM.

In his acceptance speech, Press said to the assembled business reporters and editors: “Be of good cheer. You’ve never been more important. Because content has never been more important than it is today.”
