As a gesture to those who want to be legal advisors, I will share some basic points and a few personal suggestions. These will hopefully come in handy when preparing for the next rainmaking appointment, whether at Telecom Italia or elsewhere:
Make first contact.
Send a personal email to me directly, or call. Writing to my boss is not a good idea. (I am blessed to have a boss that will pass your email directly to me with no real expectations of a follow-up, but it’s not a good first step with me.) Write concisely, with maybe one good reason why we should meet—indicating that it would be a pleasure to have a chat and meet some of my lawyers is enough. If you would like to send some description of your firm or other marketing material, please do so at this time.
