American International Group, Inc., deputy general counsel Kathleen Shannon e-mailed the insurer’s executives on March 12, 2009, about conflicting demands from the Federal Reserve Bank of New York and Securities and Exchange Commission on disclosures about payments to banks at the height of the financial crisis.

According to e-mails disclosed on Thursday by Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., the New York Fed, then led by Timothy Geithner, told AIG to withhold details from the public about the insurer’s payments of more than $62 billion to banks amidst the financial meltdown in 2008.
