Newly developed technologies inevitably trigger many legal issues, such as the right of publicity, defamation and free speech. With the Internet, such issues may reach across the world.

For example, when Danielle Smith and her family posed for family photos in Missouri, to be sent as Christmas cards to family and friends, she never imagined they would end up splashed across a Czech Republic storefront as advertisement for a Prague grocery store. In another case on a bigger scale, Woody Allen recently found himself unwittingly starring in a billboard advertisement for American Apparel, Inc. Allen sued, reportedly reaching a $5 million settlement with American Apparel.
