Sheppard Mullin Richter & Hampton has added a corporate partner to its Silicon Valley office.
Jung Son joined the firm Thursday from Technology Crossover Ventures, where she was an associate general counsel. She arrives at a Palo Alto, Calif., office that has lost three corporate partners this year.
"Jung is the first attorney that we expect to add on the corporate side," said David Lee, a corporate partner in the Palo Alto office. "We see the departures as a slight downward momentum, but we'll be back to where we were shortly."
At Technology Crossover Ventures, a private equity and venture capital firm, Son, 38, worked in M&A, securities, fund structuring and regulatory compliance -- the same areas she'll be working in at Sheppard. Previously, Son had been VP and associate general counsel at Blum Capital Partners in San Francisco and had practiced at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett in New York and Palo Alto.
A graduate of Dartmouth College and Northwestern University's law school, Son lives in Los Altos, Calif., with her husband and their two young children.
Last year, the firm opened its first outpost in Seoul, and Sheppard hopes that Son will leverage her ties to the country, where she was born and still has friends and family.
Sheppard currently has 30 lawyers in its Silicon Valley office, and Edward Anderson, co-managing partner of the office, said the firm plans to hire more.
"We're continuing to talk to other corporate laterals," he said.
