Ingrid Rechtin, 33, senior associate
Covington & Burling
Over the past two years, Rechtin has closed major deals for technology, banking and solar-energy giants. She handles mergers and acquisitions, corporate governance, public and private finance, and securities. She was lead associate on the team representing Microsoft Corp. in its $8.5 billion acquisition of Skype. On her own, she has managed a complex, patent-monetization transaction for Microsoft, investment and other transactions on behalf of Wells Fargo, and several financing transactions for Green Lake Capital LLC and Borrego Solar Systems Inc. on projects aimed toward generating jobs as well as power. A prior recipient of the Legal Aid Society's Pro Bono Award, she recently donated her legal services to merge four national spinal-cord injury organizations and to help an Iraq-war veteran receive combat-related compensation.
Word that best describes you?
Plan if you could take a year off?
Live on the north shore of Kauai, work in a legal aid clinic and improve my photography skills.
Tomorrow is another day.
Lawyer you admire?
Bruce Deming, my mentor at Covington. He is an exceptional advocate for his clients, always calm under pressure, and active in numerous volunteer and community organizations.
Trial or deal you wish you could have worked on?
The recent arguments in front of the U.S. Supreme Court regarding the Affordable Care Act were fascinating to follow, and it is probably the "case of a lifetime" for many of the lawyers involved.
