SACRAMENTO — Attorney General Kamala Harris has named a new solicitor general as part of an effort, she said, to expand the office “significantly in scope and capacity.”

Edward DuMont, an appellate specialist with Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr’s Washington, D.C., office, will oversee all criminal and civil appeals and litigate “the most sensitive, complex cases” in both state and federal courts, Harris said in an announcement Monday.
