SAN FRANCISCO

Kathleen Johnson has been named director of the new enforcement division in the Environmental Protection Agency's San Francisco office. Johnson previously served as the EPA's senior supervisor of Superfund cleanups and as an attorney. She received her J.D. from Baylor University School of Law in 1984.

Shearman & Sterling has promoted Emily Griffen and Jeffrey Wolf to counsel. Griffen, a member of the litigation group, graduated from UC-Berkeley School of Law in 2000. Wolf, a member of the mergers and acquisitions practice, is a 2004 graduate of UC-Hastings law school.

SILICON VALLEY

James Soong has joined the Palo Alto office of Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton as a partner in the intellectual property practice group. Previously with Greenberg Traurig, Soong graduated from UC-Davis School of Law in 1995.

DLA Piper has added Ute Krudewagen as a partner in the East Palo Alto office. Krudewagen, formerly with Baker & McKenzie, is a member of the labor and employment practice. She earned her J.D. from the University of Cologne in 1998 and her LL.M. from UC-Berkeley School of Law in 2000.

Hopkins & Carley shareholder Eugene Ashley has been appointed to the San Jose Silicon Valley Chamber of Commerce board of directors, where he will serve on the executive committee as legal counsel. Ashley focuses on complex intellectual property, commercial disputes, construction and insurance-related issues and disputes. He graduated from Pacific McGeorge School of Law in 1994.

Shearman & Sterling has promoted Daniel Stellenberg to counsel. Stellenberg, a member of the executive compensation and employee benefits practice, received his J.D. from Santa Clara University School of Law in 2001.

EAST BAY

David Burtt has formed Mobility Legal, a boutique representing technology clients in employee mobility issues including trade secrets and noncompetes. Burtt, who also handles general commercial and employment litigation, was previously with Ongaro Burtt & Louderback, and now splits his time between his new firm's Oakland and Truckee offices. He is a 1998 graduate of Vanderbilt Law School.

SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA

JAMS has added Jeannie Lowe to its panel in the San Diego Resolution Center. Lowe, who was a commissioner for San Diego County Superior Court, will serve as an arbitrator, mediator and special master in family law disputes. She graduated from University of San Diego School of Law in 1989.

NEW PARTNERS

Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton has elevated 13 attorneys to partner firmwide, including Brian Anderson, Meredith Jones-McKeown and Babak Yousefzadeh in San Francisco; Michael Chan in Los Angeles; Paul Cowie, Daniel Kloke and Jason Schendel in Palo Alto; David Hengstler in Orange County; Michael Leake in San Diego; and Michael Orlando in Del Mar.

Anderson is a member of the intellectual property practice group. He received his J.D. from UC-Davis School of Law in 2002.

Jones-McKeown is a member of the business trial practice group. She graduated from UC-Berkeley School of Law in 2004.

Yousefzadeh is a member of the firm's labor and employment practice group. Yousefzadeh earned his J.D. from University of San Francisco School of Law in 2004 and his LL.M. from New York University School of Law in 2010.

Chan is a member of the tax, employee benefits and executive compensation practice group. He received his LL.M. from New York University School of Law in 2003 and his J.D. from University of Oregon School of Law in 2002.

Cowie is a member of the labor and employment practice group. He earned his J.D. from University of Northumbria at Newcastle, U.K., in 2001.

Kloke is a member of the intellectual property practice. He graduated from University of Pittsburgh School of Law in 1998.

Schendel is a member of the corporate practice group. He is a 2002 graduate of Columbia Law School.

Hengstler is a member of the finance and bankruptcy practice group. He received his J.D. from University of Southern California School of Law in 2004.

Leake is a member of the real estate, land use and environmental practice group. He graduated from Harvard Law School in 1999.

Orlando is a member of the corporate and intellectual property practice groups. He is a 2002 gradaute of University of San Diego School of Law.
