SAN FRANCISCO
Scott Lawson has joined Pennington Lawson as a partner. Lawson, formerly with Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sulllivan and Greenberg Traurig, specializes in trade-secret, employment and commercial litigation. He received his J.D. from University of Utah's S.J. Quinney College of Law in 1994.
Robert Romero has been invited to join the Claims and Litigation Management Alliance. Romero, partner in charge of Hinshaw & Culbertson's San Francisco office, focuses on complex jury trial work and also serves as an arbitrator and mediator in commercial disputes. He graduated from UC-Davis School of Law in 1988.
The California Bar Foundation has appointed seven California attorneys to its board of directors, along with reappointing 10 currently serving board members.
The new members include: Manuel Medrano, principal of Medrano & Carlton in Los Angeles; Dawn Collins, Ogletree, Deakins, Nash, Smoak & Stewart shareholder in Los Angeles; Sergio Garcia, senior vice president and general counsel with ZELTIQ Aesthetics; Clothilde Hewlett, a Nossaman partner in San Francisco; Susan Jamison, a Coblentz, Patch, Duffy & Bass partner in San Francisco; Eric Casher, an associate at Meyers Nave Riback Silver & Wilson's Oakland office; and Ana de Alba, an associate at Lang, Richert and Patch in Fresno.
The foundation has reappointed the following board members for an additional two-year term: Dianne Baquet Smith, Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton partner in Los Angeles; Ronald Blanc, Arnold & Porter partner in Los Angeles; Frederick Brown, Gibson Dunn & Crutcher partner in San Francisco; Raj Chatterjee, Morrison & Foerster partner in San Francisco; David Grove, founder and managing partner of Vaquero Capital in San Francisco; Dean Hansell, Hogan Lovells partner in Los Angeles; Robert Infelise, Cox Castle & Nicholson partner in San Francisco; Paul Konovolov, Latham & Watkins counsel in Costa Mesa; Joan Kupersmith Larkin, Seyfarth Shaw partner in Los Angeles; and Mary Ann Todd, Munger Tolles & Olson partner in Los Angeles. Brown is taking over the board's presidency for 2013. Chatterjee and Smith were appointed vice presidents, while Paul Tepper, executive director of the Western Center on Law and Poverty of Los Angeles, will serve as secretary. Grove was selected to serve another term as treasurer.
SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA
Jean Yu has joined Venable's Los Angeles office as of counsel in the tax and wealth planning group. Before coming to the firm, Yu spent most of her career at Manatt, Phelps & Phillips. She received her LL.M. in taxation from Georgetown University Law Center in 2001 and her J.D. from Seattle University School of Law in 2000.
McKenna Long & Aldridge has added Wyatt Glynn, Evan Mix, Adam Noakes and Arthur Yu to its San Diego-Downtown office as associates. Glynn earned his J.D. from UC-Berkeley while Mix graduated from University of Virginia School of Law. Noakes and Yu are graduates of UCLA School of Law.
Irell & Manella has promoted Amir Naini to counsel. Based in the firm's Los Angeles office, Naini represents bioscience and high-technology companies in litigation, transactions and strategic counseling involving intellectual property rights, with an emphasis on patent-related matters. He earned his J.D. in 2003 from UC-Berkeley School of Law.

Michelman & Robinson has elected Robert Barbarowicz to the partnership in its Los Angeles office. Barbarowicz, who joined the firm's regulatory and administrative department in 2011 as of counsel, received his J.D. from The Dickinson School of Law at Pennsylvania State University in 1971.
Jones Day has elevated 45 lawyers to partner, including eight in California.
Mark Appelbaum, based in San Francisco, is a member of the banking and finance practice. He earned his J.D. from University of San Francisco School of Law in 2003.
Erin Brady, based in Los Angeles, is a member of the business restructuring and reorganization practice. She graduated from Pepperdine University School of Law in 2001.
Kerry Fowler, based in Los Angeles, is a member of the business and tort litigation practice. She is a 2003 graduate of Loyola Law School.
Tara Kowalski, based in Los Angeles, is a member of the insurance recovery practice. She received her J.D. from UC-Davis School of Law in 2002.
Brian McDonald, based in San Francisco, is a member of the insurance recovery practice. He graduated from UC-Berkeley School of Law in 2002.
Babak Nikravesh, based in San Francisco, is a member of the tax practice. He received his J.D. in 1996 from UCLA School of Law and his LL.M. in 1997 from the London School of Economics.
Cary Sullivan, based in Irvine, is a member of the business and tort litigation practice. He is a 2003 graduate of University of San Diego School of Law.
Tamera Weisser, based in San Diego, is a member of the intellectual property practice. She graduated from Georgetown University Law Center in 2004.
