SACRAMENTO — A Judicial Council committee on Thursday recommended shelving courthouse projects in Fresno, Los Angeles, Nevada and Sacramento counties to free up more than $550 million that will be spent instead on a new Long Beach courthouse.

Members of the Judicial Council’s Court Facilities Working Group lamented “indefinitely delaying” the four projects but said they had no choice given a key lawmaker’s recent directive that funding for the troubled Long Beach courthouse project should come from a judicial construction account, not the state’s general fund.
