SAN FRANCISCO The California State Bar opened misconduct proceedings Monday against Del Norte County district attorney Jon Alexander, calling two public defenders from the tiny Northern California county to testify to his alleged corruption and harshness. A tribal judge and former San Francisco court commissioner, called by the defense, testified as well, calling Alexander a hardworking man.
State Bar prosecutor Donald Steedman told Judge Lucy Armendariz that Alexander improperly loaned $14,000 to a county probation officer and spoke with a defendant in a criminal case outside of the presence of her attorney, among five other counts of wrongdoing.
