Jamie Harmon, a former criminal defense attorney convicted in a money laundering scheme involving a client, won her effort for a new trial after the judge said he flubbed on a jury instruction.

U.S. District Chief Judge James Ware, who presided over the 2010 trial in San Jose, said in an order filed Thursday that he’d failed to instruct the jury on an “essential element” of the charges, depriving Harmon of a fair trial.
