SAN FRANCISCO — California courthouses may close to the public one day a month if state leaders follow through with plans to cut $100 million from the courts’ budget, judiciary leaders said Friday.

By avoiding the need for court security on those days and by furloughing some employees, officials estimate they could save $97 million a year. And closing courthouse doors would clearly demonstrate to the public the courts’ dire financial straits, Judicial Council members said at a meeting in San Francisco.
