SAN FRANCISCO — California’s two Democratic senators have divvied up the spoils of federal legal appointments in the state, and the outcome doesn’t look good for Northern District U.S. Attorney Joseph Russoniello.

Sen. Barbara Boxer will be in charge of picking the Bay Area’s top federal prosecutor, if President Obama does indeed ask Russoniello to resign. In Los Angeles, Sen. Dianne Feinstein will be responsible for filling U.S. Attorney Thomas O’Brien’s slot, should he receive a similar resignation demand, said David Casey Jr., the statewide chair of Feinstein’s judicial selection committee.
