Expect fierce competition among judges for civil case assignments in Alameda County Superior Court this fall.
Now, there are 35 judges designated to handle civil cases either full- or part-time. Under a proposal forwarded Wednesday to Presiding Judge George Hernandez Jr., the number could drop to about a dozen full-time civil judges by the time he makes annual courtroom assignments in November.
