While the rest of us ate brunch, slept late and took in the heat this weekend, someone in the San Francisco U.S. attorney’s office was apparently working overtime to turn a minor gun-case snafu into a bitter controversy that’s sent the federal defense bar into a collective conniption.

The problem began last week, when Assistant U.S. Attorney Susan Jerich disclosed that over the course of listening to tapes of jailhouse phone calls made by Lloyd Jamison � accused of being a felon in illegal possession of a gun � she accidentally listened to part of a conversation between Jamison and his lawyer, Ian Loveseth.
