That Richard Clifton is even on the bench says something about the type of judge he'll be. So far, Clifton is the only one of President Bush's three nominations to the 9th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals to have been approved. The approval was due, in part, to the fact that there was nothing for potential opponents to grab on to -- Clifton managed to be a lawyer's lawyer and pull off the not-easy feat of becoming a well-liked Republican in Democrat-dominated Hawaii.
