Kirkpatrick & Lockhart Preston Gates Ellis has added to its Asian network after opening an office in Shanghai -- its second in China.
The office -- which is to be headed by corporate partner Vincent Tso, who was formerly based in the firm's Hong Kong arm -- adds to an Asian network that includes further branches in Beijing and Taipei.
The new office will focus on areas including technology, corporate, commercial and capital markets, with intellectual property partner Howard Chen, of counsel Ivan Chiang and counsel Amigo Xie joining Tso.
K&L Gates entered the Asia market around 10 years ago with the launch of its Hong Kong office, which was followed by debuts in Taipei in 2003 and Beijing a year later.
Commenting on the latest move, K&L Gates Asia managing partner David Tang said: "Opening an office in Shanghai reflects the strong growth of K&L Gates' China practice and strengthens our capabilities and reach in serving clients in China and in the financial sector."
K&L Gates Chairman Peter Kalis added: "With our Shanghai office joining sister offices in Beijing, Hong Kong, and Taipei, K&L Gates has established an unsurpassed presence for international law firms in the Greater China market."
