The 9th Circuit heard arguments Tuesday in two incredibly divisive cases: one involving the use of "under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance, and the other dealing with the phrase "In God We Trust" on American currency. Judge Carlos Bea gave strong indications he would side with the government in both cases against atheist plaintiff Michael Newdow, and find the language constitutional. The question, then, becomes whether Bea's colleagues will side with Newdow in both cases.
