Laying Legal Claim to Florida Keys Shipwreck

An 18th century shipwreck, believed to be an armed merchant vessel of French origin whose trove could be worth almost $3 billion, has been found in deep water about 40 miles southwest of Key West. Sub Sea Research Inc., which is conducting the search and proposed salvage effort, recently followed its findings with a trip to federal court to stake a claim under admiralty law.
