A statewide effort to prepare for what likely will be the biggest family law case in Texas history includes a search to recruit about 100 lawyer volunteers. Their mission will be to represent hundreds of children recently removed by Child Protective Services from a secretive polygamist compound. The removal petitions CPS filed on April 7 will test Texas' civil justice system in an unprecedented way because of the sheer volume of litigants and the difficult issues involved, family lawyers say.
