What are the hot practice areas for third-quarter job growth? General business, labor and employment, and litigation, according to a survey commissioned by Robert Half Legal, a legal staffing company.
Almost one-third of the lawyers interviewed for the survey say they plan to hire full-time legal staff -- mostly attorneys -- during the next three months. That's up eight points from the results of the company's survey about hiring trends for the second quarter of 2012.
Eighty-four percent of the lawyers surveyed are somewhat or very confident that their organization will grow in the next three months, according to the survey results released on Tuesday. That's a 16-point improvement from last quarter.
The staffing company used an independent research firm to conduct telephone interviews with 100 lawyers with hiring authority at firms with 20 or more employees and 100 corporate lawyers with hiring authority at companies with 1,000 or more employees. According to the press release, this is the first time, since the company began commissioning the quarterly hiring survey in early 2010, that bankruptcy/foreclosure was not among the top three hot practice areas.
