Telecommunications Law Professionals, a new boutique law firm in Washington, opened for business this week, started by five former partners of Paul Hastings.
"The move was really motivated by recurring conflicts that arose at Paul Hastings," said Carl Northrop, managing member of the new firm. "I was a partner for 15 years, and I have nothing bad to say about the firm." Previously, Northrop was the head of Paul Hastings' international telecommunications practice.
Former Paul Hastings partners with the telecom firm also include Michael Lazarus, Andrew Morentz, John Griffith Johnson, Jr. and Vance Schuemann. At the new firm, Lazarus and Morentz are members, with Johnson serving as of counsel and Schuemann as a senior public policy adviser. The firm also brought on Jessica DeSimone as an associate.
Northrop also brought along about a dozen clients, including MetroPCS, a wireless communications service provider. Northrop said he does not expect the firm to grow this year, as the team plays out the new boutique platform. He said he does anticipate growth down the road, however.
