In Corporate Counsel's annual report on corporate America's outside law firms, large powerhouse firms dominate, jockeying for position as business needs change and different plaintiffs take aim. It's an ever-evolving relationship that many liken to a marriage. Lately these marriages have come under stress, with cost pressures, collapsing revenues and the Great Recession all conspiring to alter the relationship. Last year, perhaps prematurely, brave voices heralded a fundamental change, but the final verdict is yet to come.
