U.S. Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan kicked off a day of calls on senators in the friendly office of Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., and then met with Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky. She was also scheduled to meet with six members of the Judiciary Committee. In a sign that some meetings could be more contentious than others, McConnell released a statement highlighting Kagan's ties to the Obama administration and saying that he intended to ask her about her ability to be independent.
