The wife of a Long Island, N.Y., lawyer charged with fatally stabbing her husband will undergo a psychiatric evaluation, a Suffolk County judge has ruled.
Kathleen Prisco, 48, is facing second-degree murder charges for allegedly stabbing her husband, Ralph Prisco, 54, more than a dozen times on Friday morning. According to police, the stabbing took place during a domestic dispute at the couple's Fort Salonga home.
Mr. Prisco was taken by helicopter to a nearby hospital, where he later died. His wife has pleaded not guilty and is on suicide watch, according to her attorney, Thomas F. Liotti of Garden City.
Mr. Prisco, who attended St. John's University School of Law, was a founding member of Long Island Employee Benefits Group, a Hauppauge pension plan administration firm.
On Monday, Suffolk County District Judge Paul M. Hensley granted a defense application to have two court-appointed psychiatrists evaluate whether Ms. Prisco is competent to stand trial. The case is set to continue Thursday.
