Nixon Peabody and Seyfarth Shaw last week joined a growing number of firms that are betting associates will be willing to work for less in the coming years. "I think you are seeing the beginning of a broad movement," says one consultant about the associate pay reductions that have taken place at about a dozen large and midsize firms. It's clear that firms are hearing that they are paying associates too much, but many firms are reluctant to lower salaries for fear that they may not be able to recruit top talent.
