Eversheds has boosted its new office in Hong Kong with the hire of a five-partner team from DLA Piper.

Banking partners King Tak Fung and Michael Yau and litigation partners Ivan Ng, Ronald Sum and William Leung will join Eversheds over the next three months, while the firm has also recruited Fried, Frank, Shriver, Harris & Jacobson corporate partner Stephen Mok, who will join on March 1.

Eversheds launched in Hong Kong last year with the hire of Heller Ehrman Asia head Nick Seddon.

Seddon, who previously headed DLA Piper's Asia practice, said: "These partners have a good solid business. I know how strong and reliable they are. They cover the bases of the practice areas we need and they have been in the market for a long time."

Eversheds chief executive designate Brian Hughes said the firm's ambitions to launch a strong practice in Hong Kong stems from its importance as a worldwide center for finance and trade.

Hughes commented: "We have strategically pursued key lateral hires in this region."

The news comes less than a month after the top ten London firm recruited DLA Piper's former Singapore managing partner Desmond Ong to launch a Singapore office. Ong quit as DLA's Singapore chief last November and was replaced by Linklaters partner Martin David.

Following the two new openings, Eversheds will have three offices in the region, in addition to the firm's Shanghai base.
