Because of new criminal charges against U.S. District Judge Samuel B. Kent, the Judicial Council of the Fifth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals has reopened its investigation into misconduct allegations against the judge, who sits in the Southern District of Texas. In an order signed on Jan. 9, Fifth Circuit Chief Judge Edith H. Jones granted a motion filed by Cathy McBroom, Kent's former case manager, seeking reconsideration of the sanctions imposed against Kent.
