The 5th Circuit wasted little time tossing the criminal prosecution of U.S. District Judge Samuel B. Kent of the Southern District of Texas to an out-of-circuit judge. Senior U.S. District Judge Roger Vinson of the Northern District of Florida was assigned the job in an Aug. 29 order, one day after Kent's indictment. The ink was barely dry when Vinson issued a sweeping gag order forbidding anyone connected with the case from public comment. Kent is accused of sex crimes involving his former case manager.
