Bankruptcy filings leapt up 30 percent for the 12 months ending March 31 -- from 676,000 in 2007 to nearly 902,000 this year -- according to data from the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts. Despite the sharp rise, the filings are below the high point of 1.8 million in 2006, the year after implementation of the Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act of 2005.
