Bingham McCutchen finalized its acquisition Tuesday of Alschuler Grossman, a 40-lawyer Los Angeles litigation shop. The Alschuler acquisition is Bingham's third in California in the past five years. That approach is rare -- and risky, said a California-based legal recruiter. The only other firm that has grown comparably in the state is DLA Piper.
