As consumers turn to prepaid legal plans that offer help for a monthly or an annual fee, solos and small-firm lawyers are finding the predictable income a fair trade-off for the lower-margin work. Lawyers are also drawn to prepaid work by the steady stream of clients and the chance to convert members into higher-margin clients. "We've grown significantly over the last decade," says Ronald Glantz of 38-attorney Glantz & Glantz, "and all of that growth has been fueled by prepaid legal work."
