Beating expectations that it wouldn't be able to act on pension reform legislation before 2006, the House rushed to approve a sweeping bill on Thursday. Action on the bill sped up considerably when House lawmakers reached agreement with the United Auto Workers on benefit restrictions included in the legislation. The agreement with the union also garnered some Democrats' votes for the controversial pension measure. The final vote was 294-132, with 70 Democrats supporting the bill.
