The decision to break up Coudert Brothers leaves an established China practice group of about 50 attorneys with offices in Hong Kong, Beijing and Shanghai -- a development that is reviving U.S. law firms' interest in the region. Says one observer: "You can assume that there will be a scramble. That's driven by the fact that many, if not most, Am Law 100 and even [Am Law] 200 firms have China aspirations -- and there are far fewer experienced, U.S.-trained lawyers practicing in China than there is demand."
