The Senate Judiciary Committee chairman said Monday that he thinks rumors of a looming vacancy on the Supreme Court are unfounded. Speaking to the Philadelphia Bar Association, Sen. Arlen Specter said his recent observations of the chief justice have "led me to the conclusion that we're not about to have a retirement by Chief Justice Rehnquist" in the near future. On a related note, Specter hinted at the possibility of more congressional acrimony over any impending judicial nominees.
